how our comic book appraisals work
- 1Send what you have
A rough list, photos of the covers, or a shared album link. For big collections, a few box shots plus your best 10–20 books is plenty to start.
- 2We identify the keys
We sort out first appearances, key issues, variants and printings — the books that drive most of a collection's value — and estimate condition from your photos.
- 3You get values, book by book
Each key book gets a current fair market value drawn from recent public sales at its grade, so you can see exactly where the numbers come from.
- 4Keep, grade or sell
Use the values however you like. If you want to sell, we'll make a firm offer and send a prepaid, fully insured overnight label — or tell you which books are worth sending to CGC first.
what decides a comic book's value
Graded or raw?
- Graded (CGC or CBCS slab): the label's grade and page quality set the value — we price against recent sales at that exact grade.
- Raw (unslabbed): we estimate a grade range from your photos and value it accordingly.
- Not sure if a raw book is worth grading? We'll tell you which ones pay off and which don't.
comic book appraisal questions
How much does it cost to have a comic book appraised?
Our appraisals are free, with no obligation to sell. Formal written appraisals for insurance or estate paperwork are a different service that some independent appraisers charge for; ours is a market-value appraisal based on recent sales, which is what most collectors and families need to decide what to do next.
How do I get comic books appraised?
Fill out the form on this page with a list or photos of your books. We identify the key issues, estimate condition and send back a value for each key book based on recent sold prices. There's no need to visit a shop or mail anything in to get your appraisal.
How do I find out if my old comics are worth anything?
Look at the year, the issue number and the cover. Books from the 1930s–1970s, first appearances of major characters, #1 issues and books in high grade are the usual places value hides. If you're not sure, send us photos — we'll tell you which books matter and roughly what they're worth.
Where can I sell my comic books for the most money?
It depends on the books. High-end keys can do well at auction, but auction houses take seller fees and make you wait for the sale and payout. A direct buyer pays immediately with no fees. We'll give you our offer and compete with any written auction estimate or dealer offer, so you can compare.
Do you need to see my comics in person?
No. Appraisals are done from your photos, and selling happens by mail — no driving, no meeting up. If you sell, we email you a prepaid overnight shipping label, high-value insurance covers every book in transit, and we confirm condition when the books arrive.
Do you appraise trading cards too?
Yes — vintage sports and non-sport cards, graded (PSA, BGS, SGC) and raw. Use the same form.
